Reboot Requirement:
Reboot is required after installation for updates to take effect and hardware stability to be maintained.

Installation:

To use Smart Update Manager from the Service Pack for ProLiant:
Offline:

  • Service Pack ProLiant Offline mode boots a special Linux OS environment, thus the Linux Smart Component are used, not the VMware Smart Components

Remote Online, if the component is supported by SUM but is not yet part of an SPP:

  • Download the appropriate Service Pack for ProLiant
  • Add the component to the Service Pack for ProLiant
  • Mount the Service Pack for ProLiant on a remote server running Windows or Linux that has a network connection to the ESXi host to be updated
  • Run Smart Update Manager via launch_sum.bat for Windows or launch_sum.sh for Linux
  • Add the ESXi host to be updated as a remote target/node
  • Enter the IP or DNS address of the ESXi host to be updated
  • Enter the ESXi host credentials (root or administrator username and password)
  • For Smart Update Manager 6.0 and newer, select both the Additional Package with the added component and the Service Pack for ProLiant Baseline on the node Inventory page.
  • Follow Smart Update Manager Steps and complete the firmware update.
  • Refer to the Service Pack for ProLiant Documentation for detailed instructions at: www.hpe.com/servers/spp/download

To use HPE Insight Control for vCenter :

  • Log in to the vSphere Client.
  • Select a server or cluster in the inventory tree.
  • Click the HPE Insight Management tab.
  • Follow Insight Control for vCenter steps to update firmware using a Smart Component

To update firmware from VMware ESXi operating system on target server:

  • Enable Tech Support Mode on the ESXi host.
  • Login as root. (You must be root in order to apply the ROM update.)
  • Place the Smart Component (CPxxxxxx.zip) in a temporary directory.
  • From the same directory, unzip the Smart Component.
    • unzip CPxxxxxx.zip
  • Ensure that the file CPxxxxxx.vmexe is executable. Execute the command:
    • chmod +x CPxxxxxx.vmexe
  • To perform the standalone installation, execute the command:
    • ./CPxxxxxx.vmexe
  • Follow the directions given by the Smart Component
  • Logout
  • Disable Tech Support Mode on the ESXi host
  • Reboot your system, if required, for the firmware update to take effect

HBA Software Installation

After you have completed the hardware installation and powered on the computer, follow the instructions listed in this chapter for your operating system to install the HBA driver and any other utilities required for the installation.

Driver Software for the Solaris OS

The HBA driver for the Solaris OS is included with the Solaris 10 1/06 (s10u1) OS release. No additional patches or packages are required to support the HBA on minimum supported versions of the Solaris 10 OS for x64/x86 systems.

Solaris Diagnostic Support

Diagnostic support for the HBA is included in the SunVTS software beginning with version 6.3. The SunVTS software is included with the Solaris 10 11/06 (s10u3) OS release, and is also available for download at:

The emlxtest utility supports the following functions:

Installing Software for the Red Hat and SUSE Linux OSes

No updates are required to support the HBA on minimum supported versions of Linux.

Linux

For diagnostic support, you might need to rebuild the Linux driver. Before rebuilding the drivers for Linux, you must have the required Linux OS installed on the hard disk. The driver and utilities are available for download at the Emulex support site for Sun Microsystems.


To Install the HBA Software for the Linux OS

The driver and management utilities are available for download at the Emulex support site for Sun Microsystems.

1. Go to the Emulex support site for Sun Microsystems at:

2. Locate the Sun StorageTek section, and click the model number (SG-PCIE2FCGBE-E-Z) for the HBA you want to install.

3. Locate the Linux Driver section, and click Download to copy the driver files to a local file system.

4. Click Download to copy the management utilities to a local file system.

5. Click Manual to copy the PDF manual, and then follow the installation and configuration procedures.

7. Install the driver for Linux as described in the Emulex driver and utilities user guide.

To Install the HBA Software for the VMware Technology

The management utilities are available for download at the Emulex support site for Sun Microsystems. You must obtain the drivers from VMware.

Installing Software for Windows Server 2003 OS

The HBA driver and applications kits for Windows Server 2003 OS is available for download at the Emulex support site for Sun Microsystems.


To Install the Software for the Windows Server 2003 OS

Configuration and Diagnostic Utilities

Use the HBAnywhere utility or the lputil command-line interface (CLI) utility to configure the HBA. These utilities are available for Linux and Windows OSes and provide support for the following functions:
